extra_ currículo
about.
extra_currículo is a web application concept designed to centralize and streamline access to extracurricular opportunities at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). The platform addresses long-standing issues such as the dispersion of information, difficulty in management, and lack of personalized recommendations.
Developed as my undergraduate thesis in Computer Science, the project was created in collaboration with Felipe Vidal. While I focused primarily on the phase 1 (Digital Conception) and Felipe led the phase 2 (Development), we actively contributed to all stages together — from research and ideation to prototyping, system architecture and web development. The result blends extensive UX research with high-fidelity prototyping to deliver a solution that is both functional and user-centered.
challenge.
The main challenge was to design a platform that meets the needs of both students and faculty, centralizing multiple categories of extracurricular activities — from extension projects to research groups — while ensuring ease of use, integration with existing systems, and sustained user engagement. This required in-depth research, competitor analysis, and the transformation of qualitative data into actionable design decisions.
process.
Following the Double Diamond framework, extra_currículo progressed from Discover to Deliver before reaching its minimum viable product (MVP).
The complex challenge was to centralize and simplify access to diverse extracurricular opportunities at UFRJ for users with varied profiles and needs.
Phase 1 involved CSD Matrix analysis, benchmarking, UX research, persona creation, value proposition, user flows, and Figma prototyping with iterative testing.
Phase 2 covered non-functional requirements, scalable software architecture, and database modeling.
The tangible solution is an MVP that offers intelligent filters, clear categorization, and a responsive interface, unifying search, discovery, and management of opportunities in one accessible platform.
results.
The extra_currículo prototype delivers a clean, intuitive, and responsive interface that consolidates diverse extracurricular opportunities into one central hub. It allows advanced filtering by tags, categories, and units, offers personalized recommendations, and integrates with existing university systems for accurate, up-to-date information.
This project not only addressed a real institutional need but also strengthened my skills in UX research, interaction design, and prototyping — laying the groundwork for potential future implementation at UFRJ or in similar academic contexts.
